Hey! Who’s sitting on the fast-forward button! What happened to 2010?
Can you believe how quickly 2010 flew by? In 12 months time, we produced two well-reviewed and received programs. Summer 2010′s crescendo is of course: ExtrABBAganza. Just FIVE months later, we produced and performed our FIRST ever Winter holiday concert: HoliDazed!
We could NOT have accomplished all we’ve done without the unprecedented support of our Board, Volunteers, Donors and Community members. To each and every kind of supporter we’ve the honor to meet, THANK YOU for all your support!
All things considered, as we prepare for our Summer 2011 country-western themed concert, we’ve got just 19 short months to prepare to SHOWCASE Hawai’i to the WORLD at GALA 2012!
What is GALA? Good question!
Click this link to skip over to GALA’s official website for complete details. In a nutshell (copied from GALA’s site):
GALA Choruses, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3), not-for-profit organization serving the GLBT choral movement. The mission of GALA Choruses is to support GLBT choruses as we change our world through song. GALA Choruses is open to all GLBT and GLBT-allied choruses. Through workshops, festivals and ongoing networking and administrative support services, GALA Choruses fosters the continued artistic and organizational growth of its member choruses.
Just in case you’re wondering, is PMC a gay chorus, the short answer is no. The long answer? Click to read Lyn’s delightful article, PMC Comes Out!
Next question: Why GALA? (Another good question!)
Time to review PMC’s Mission Statement . . .
Puna Men’s Chorus is a diverse ‘Ohana which shares the power of music with our community. Grounded in Puna, Hawai’i, our voices reach out to inspire, educate, and transform ourselves and our world.
Those last few words, “and our world” sets the stage to achieve our goal to represent our home to the world. To achieve this goal, there’s considerable organizing and fund raising to complete.
To help us get organized, PMC created a brand-spanking new committee just for GALA 2012. We’re delighted to share news that second-tenor, Soul Dancer, has agreed to be the Chair for our GALA 2012 Committee. With a masters in social work, Soul brings over two decades of event organization to the table. From organization and facilitating local spiritual retreats for 20 – 120 people (with team support), he’s helped organize events with attendance of over one-million people.
